В последнем томе "Истории Средиземья" (The Peoples of Middle-earth) Толкин объяснил, что Нерданель дала трём своим сыновьям имена Russandol и Ambarussa (одно на двоих близнецов) в соответствии с цветом их волос.

"Maitimo 'well-shaped one': he was of beautiful bodily form. But he, and the youngest, inherited the rare red-brown hair of Nerdanel's kin, Her father had the epesse of rusco 'fox'. So Maitimo had as an epesse given by his brothers and other kin Russandol 'copper-top'." (The Shibboleth of Feanor).

"The one -ros was supposed (at its adoption) in Elros to contain a Sindarin stem *ross- from base ROS 'spray, spindrift' (as scattered by a wind from a fountain, waterfall, or breaking waves). The other is supposed to be a colour word, referring to the red, red-brown hair of the first, sixth, and seventh sons of Feanor, descending to them from their maternal grandfather, father of Nerdanel, Feanor's wife, a great craftsman, devoted to the Vala Aule. It is difficult to accept these two homophonic elements - of unconnected, indeed unconnectable, meanings - as used in Sindarin, or Sindarized names. It is also unfortunate that the first appears too reminiscent of Latin ros ['dew'] or Greek 'drosos', and the latter too close to well-known modern European 'red' words: as Latin russus, Italian rosso, English russet, rust, etc. However, the Elvish languages are inevitably full of such reminiscences, so that this is the lesser difficulty." (The Problem of Ros).

Поскольку профессор-филолог был ещё и очень хорошим историком (лингвисту оксфордского уровня невозможно им не быть), то он, конечно, знал, что главная площадь в столице России называется Красной неспроста.

Names of Rus', Russia and Ruthenia.

Дальше будет фокус, который, что называется, дома лучше не повторять...

Если у вас геральдика не сходится с этимологией топонимов той же местности, это не значит, что вы приняли желаемое за действительное. Это значит, что вы просто ещё не нашли недостающее звено.

"The Prophecy That Is Shaping History: New Research on Ezekiel’s Vision of the End" by Jon Mark Ruthven, PhD & Ihab Griess, PhD. (ссылка на работу в .pdf), цитирую:

"Second, it is possible to find at least a phonetic resemblance between the named nations and geographical locations. Of course, one can only surmise where the numerous “rus/ros” nations described in Chapter 2 eventually settled. On this point, it must be admitted that the link between the scattered candidates for Rosh in the Ancient Near-Eastern sources and those candidates north and east of the Black Sea during the first Christian centuries has not been clearly established. However, while the link to Russia from the Ancient Near East is tentative, one can argue even more convincingly that, historically, the very name of Russia was presented to the world by the Byzantine Christians in conscious connection with the prophecy of Ezekiel’s Rosh."
